Like all loudspeakers, the design philosophy for the Orion was to provide as accurately as possible a recreation of the recording event at this price point. This means that you should hear the instruments and musicians exactly as they were recorded: tonally(timbre), spatially (imaging) and communicating the music (musicality). To achieve this, several very important criteria had to be met.

Mid-Range Purity  -  High on the list of these criteria is tonality, especially midrange tonality. This is the single most important aspect of reproduction which is almost never met in loudspeaker design. The crossover for the Orion is a 6dB/octave, phase coherent, hard-wired design using premium quality parts, with nothing but an inductor (ie only wire) in the critical midrange - no capacitors, no resistors. The mid/bass driver is the same type as used in the flagship Symphony, already famous for its superb midrange quality and transparency. The Orion uses two of the slightly larger version of this driver (170mm) to give outstanding bass and efficiency.

Coherence  -  The tweeter provides the harmonics for the midrange fundamentals, and the Orion uses a high quality treated fabric dome tweeter which is at once transparent, sweet and sonically correct. The careful blend and integration of the drive units in the Orion achieves a excellent coherence; the sound is simply ONE sound, not bass, midrange and treble.

Musical Truth  -  What the Orion achieves is natural midrange & treble reproduction, precise imaging and sound staging, a silent background, exceptional dynamic reproduction, and superlative musicality. Besides that, it is easy to drive, has a very powerful bass performance, and takes up very little room.

All these factors allow the listener to become totally involved in the music, in a way never achieved before at this price. In short, the Orion truly lives up to its name, for it is indeed
